after alex told me about his foot race i thought it was a great piece of evidence on how you should never give up. he wrote it on his blog but for those of you that don't know it, here is the story in his words:

I raced Jason Tavares over at the old klein stadium. 400 meters, one whole lap. The conditions of the race were I had a 50 meter head start, no spiked shoes and I had to stay in the 2nd lane and he in the first. Jason is a varsity 400 meter sprinter so I think it was set up pretty fair. I was very siked for this race because I thought he was totally underestimating my running ability. Geoff dropped his arm to start the race and I was doing great. I felt that there was no way he could catch me. After about 250 meters I felt the energy in my legs drop suddenly but I expected this. Every step felt like I had 20 pound weights on each foot. I knew before the race I was gonna have to block out the pain and just keep going. My mind was focused solely on putting one foot in front of the other and not dragging my feet. After 300 meters I looked up and assessed how far I had to go. My stride was getting slower and slower and I began to hear Jason behind me. I still had so far to go! After he passed me I figured, there was no way in hell I could have made it all the way back to where I started. But wait! I didnt have to make it all the way back to my starting line! I had a 50 meter head start! I freakin could have won by a lot! I'm so stupid! I was concentrating so hard on running that I forgot where my freakin finish line was. So Jason won but we agreed on a rematch, same conditions. I shouldnt have stopped. I should have just believed that I could win and kept on running. Thats the mistake I made of because of that I deserved to lose. Everyone did agree that if I hadnt stopped I would have won.

Next race is monday (or sunday) but I think its monday. I'll post it when I know for sure. If you dont have anything better to do, you can come watch me whoop up.
